On Thursday May 7, we joined 39 other emerging companies in showcasing our technology at the Plug and Play Expo in Sunnyvale, CA. The Plug and Play Expo is a premier startup company event highlighting best of breed new mobile, internet and cleantech companies.
Only 40 companies were selected among over 200 applicants for this event. The screening process was based on which companies will have the biggest impact on people’s lives in 2009 and beyond. We felt very proud that 800PBX had been selected, and were really excited to be part of the list of 40 hot startups.

We had the opportunity to pitch our company, exhibit our technology, and answer questions in front of a panel of business investors and venture capitalists. We received some excellent feedback, made great contacts, and came away with a list of ideas for future development. All in all, the Plug and Play Expo was a great event which helped re-energize our batteries.

800PBX offers 15 day free trial with all plans. However, we recently received lot of requests asking us to enable instant evaluation rather than a free trial.
The program “Test Drive” provides access to 800PBX services in three easy steps. Simply enter the company name, employees names and corresponding contact numbers and the phone number where you wish to receive the demonstration call.
Though the test drive does not provide access to all the features, we believe that it will be a good start to check our speech recognition IVR, custom music on hold, extensions and follow me features. You can check the call quality, responsiveness and efficiency of the 800PBX system - all for free.

Speech recognition is the process of converting an acoustic signal,
captured by a microphone or a telephone, to a set of words. The recognized
words can be the final results, as for applications such as commands &
control, data entry, and document preparation. They can also serve as the
input to further linguistic processing in order to achieve speech
understanding.
We have two exciting features namely Auto-Attendant and Appointment Scheduling which does speech recognition in our 800PBX system.
Auto Attendant
The automated attendant system allows callers to be automatically
transferred to a user’s extension without the intervention of a
receptionist. There is also a ‘dial-by-name’ directory to find user on a
system.
The dial-by-name directory is set up last name followed by first name.
Once the user name is announced the caller can press # and it will
automatically ring the extension, after announcing the correct extension
number for the caller’s future reference.
Appointment Scheduling
The appointment scheduling system allows callers to automatically schedule
an appointment without the need for a receptionist. The caller can
schedule an appointment based on a particular day, date and also choose a
particular time slot for the same. Also, once the appointment is
confirmed, the person booking the appointment will get a ring back as a
reminder for the scheduled appointment.
Testing Speech Recognition Features
To test the two speech recognition features, you can call +1-888448868 and test either of the applications by following the appropriate prompts.
